Alexandria is a small independent city — just 15 square miles — with one of the strongest brand identities in the DC Metro. From the cobblestone streets and federal-period rowhouses of Old Town to the bohemian shops and bungalows of Del Ray to the Mount Vernon riverfront corridor and the high-rises of the West End, Alexandria packs more character per square mile than almost any jurisdiction in Northern Virginia. The Bailey Team has been a family-owned real estate team since 1970, and we’ve served Northern Virginia since 1988 — with 7,500+ closed transactions and deep working knowledge of Alexandria’s submarkets, from $2M+ Old Town brick rowhouses to $400K Parkfairfax condos.

Alexandria City Public Schools
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is a separate school system from Fairfax County (Alexandria is an independent city). The system serves about 16,000 students across roughly 18 schools. T.C. Williams High School — now Alexandria City High School — serves the entire city and is known for its diversity and its International Baccalaureate program. K-8 enrollment is by attendance zone.
Alexandria also has a robust private and parochial school presence, including Bishop Ireton High School, Episcopal High School, and St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School. Many Old Town and Del Ray families weigh ACPS public schools against private options — we’ll send specific school assignment and feeder info for any address you’re considering.

Why Alexandria Sellers and Buyers Choose The Bailey Team
Three things set us apart:
Three generations of Northern Virginia experience.
The Bailey Team was founded in 1970 and has been serving Northern Virginia since 1988. Alexandria has a uniquely informed buyer pool — federal employees, contractors, military, and international relocations — and a uniquely heritage-conscious seller base. We’ve closed across every Alexandria submarket, from Old Town historic brick to Parkfairfax condo flips to Mount Vernon riverfront.
Licensed in VA, DC, MD, and WV.
Alexandria buyers often weigh DC neighborhoods (Capitol Hill, Southwest, Capitol Riverfront) and Maryland (National Harbor, Oxon Hill) against Old Town. Having one team licensed in all four jurisdictions means we can write contracts on either side of the river without handoff confusion.
Family-owned, small enough to actually care.
We’re not a 200-agent megateam. When you call (571) 240-4495, you reach Gayle, Jenna, or Valeria — every time.
What Alexandria Clients Say About The Bailey Team
“Gayle was great and I could not say it enough! As a first-time home buyer, he helped me navigate the home buying process and helped me with a contract that had fallen through with another agent. Gayle was always willing and available to show me properties. He offered great advice and helped me to negotiate the best price for my new place.”

Frequently Asked Questions About Alexandria Real Estate
What’s the difference between Old Town and Del Ray?
Old Town is the historic, federally-architectured core south of King Street and along the Potomac — brick rowhouses, cobblestones, federal-period homes, and the highest price points in the city. Del Ray is north of Old Town, smaller-scale bungalows, family-friendly, walkable to Mount Vernon Avenue, with a slightly artsier neighborhood feel. Old Town commands premium prices; Del Ray offers more value per square foot.
Is Alexandria part of Fairfax County?
No. Alexandria is an independent city with its own government, school system (Alexandria City Public Schools), and tax base. Geographically it’s surrounded by Arlington County to the north and Fairfax County to the south and west, but politically it’s separate. Fairfax County has a separate Mount Vernon district that’s south of and adjacent to Alexandria — sometimes confused.
Best Alexandria neighborhoods for federal employees?
Old Town and Del Ray for Metro / Yellow / Blue / Pentagon commuters. Carlyle and Eisenhower Avenue for USPTO, federal courthouse, and downtown DC commuters. Mount Vernon corridor for those with cars commuting to the Pentagon, Fort Belvoir, or downtown via GW Parkway. Potomac Yard for buyers wanting new construction with future Metro access.
How are property taxes and condo fees in Alexandria?
Alexandria’s residential property tax rate is set annually by City Council — we’ll quote the current rate when discussing any specific home. Condo fees vary widely by building: Old Town historic conversions might be $400–700/month, Parkfairfax around $500/month, and luxury West End or Carlyle high-rises run $700–1,500/month. We always pull the resale package and condo financials before contract.
What about flood / waterfront risk in Old Town and along the Potomac?
Alexandria has invested significantly in flood mitigation infrastructure, but King Street and parts of Old Town North are still in flood zones. We’ll always pull FEMA flood maps and discuss insurance implications before you contract on any waterfront or low-elevation property.
Do you handle commercial real estate in Alexandria?
Yes. The Bailey Team handles commercial real estate (office, retail, mixed-use, investment sales), business brokerage, and assisted living facility transactions across Alexandria and the broader DMV.
